But instead of beating myself up when my life isn’t “complete,” I give myself permission to be satisfied if, twice a week, I’m able to engage in the twelve solo endeavors that are most important to me (in no particular order): Sunlight (one hour) Writing (two hours) Reading (one hour) Sauna (30 minutes) Yoga (30 minutes) Squats (100 reps) Pull-ups (60 reps) Push-ups (200 reps) Cycling (30 minutes) Meditation (20 minutes) Hiking/walking (two hours) Weight training (30 minutes) Some folks might call these endeavours simple self-care rituals, while I simply consider them part of a meaningful life. Although Ill likely never accomplish all these tasks in one day, doing each just a couple times a week gives me 24 opportunities to improve my life every seven days. Moreover, these pastimes make me a better version of myself, especially when I’m around others. However, the number of smokers in Egypt is increasing every day and especially among youth. AUC took a first step to protect its students from this danger by banning indoor smoking. AUC banned smoking10 feet from classrooms to maintain a healthier environment .However, it did not decrease the number of smokers on campus so AUC should ban smoking on campus.This essay will prove that smoking should be banned on the AUC campus for several reasons. Fast-forward about a decade when Lincoln was in the presidential seat and Lincoln was facing similar issues in his struggle to unify the wilting United States. As president Lincoln’s main goal was to unify the two sides of the United States: the Union and the Confederacy. In order to unify the country Lincoln had to hurdle his biggest obstacle in abolishing slavery. Perhaps the only reason Lincoln supported the freeing of slaves was because he realized it was the only way to unify the country, which is a solid argument in itself to the idea of Lincoln receiving too much credit for freeing the slaves. Anyhow, Lincoln somewhat reluctantly proceeded to announce his plans to abolish slavery with his first plan called compensated emancipation. In this plan Lincoln would free the slaves by paying off the slave owners large sums of money in return for the slaves freedom. Once freed, the slaves must move out of the country to foreign lands such as the Caribbean, Latin America, or West Africa. Although this plan would work for Lincoln in his main goal of unifying the country, the black community was outraged, rightfully so, in that the United States was just as much the blacks land as it was the whites land. After some time, Lincoln finally came to the realization that in order to avoid a country separation he had to release the Emancipation Proclamation (EP). The EP was a two-part document, the first being known as the preliminary EP, which was released on Sep 22, 1862. This gave the confederate states 100 days to join the union or Lincoln would abolish slavery in the states that continued to rebel. On Jan 1st, 1863 the proclamation went into affect and Lincoln abolished slavery in the nine of the ten states that had yet to join the Union (Texas was exempted). This is the day in history that is perceived to be the day that slavery was forever abolished. However, slavery was only abolished in nine rebellious states while it was legal in states that had been apart of the Union before that Jan 1st date. Although this was clearly not the end of all ends in slavery, it was a genius political move by Lincoln who achieved his goal of unifying the country. But that’s all it was. Lincoln did his job; he unified the country. But, to pronounce Lincoln as the man who ended all slavery is simply put, ridiculous. It was defiantly a start as over 50,000 slaves were freed on that historic day, but was far from over as pockets of the country were continuing on with slavery as if nothing had happened. This included the entire state of Texas who was somehow exempt from the whole ordeal. Lincoln indeed was a great president who brought the country out of deep times, but he was not the man who ended slavery on the spot as we have been inclined to learn over the years. It was the next two or so years leading up to the 13th amendment that deserve most of the credit. The time following the EP was joyous for some, insulting to others, but in truth was most important to the complete freedom of blacks in America. Slavery continued on in the states for quite some time after the EP, which started to confuse many black leaders of the time. One of the most important dates in freeing the blacks was June 19th, 1865, two and a half years after the EP, when General Gordon Granger landed in Galveston, Texas to announce that slavery had been abolished and that at that moment all slaves had equal rights to their slave masters and could do as they please. This created much jubilation in the state and around the country, as these slaves had been â€Å"illegal† slaves for over two years. This date, now celebrated as Juneteenth as an official holiday in 38 states, is considered to be the beginning of the end of slavery in the United States. About 6 months later on Dec 6th, 1865 the 13th amendment was added to the constitution stating that slavery was officially prohibited in the United States of America under any circumstances. It took nearly three years since the EP to completely abolish slavery, which by some people is considered completely ridiculous and insane, but it must be noted that the EP was not put in place to abolish slavery, but was in fact an intricate and in many ways brilliant political move by Abe Lincoln to unify the country. It was not intended to free the slaves as most of us are falsely led to believe. So, when are we going to get the celebration of abolished slavery in America right? I thought that here were only two kinds of people, right or wrong, in western films, but as the plot develops, I did not understand which was right or which was wrong because characters behavior and backgrounds made me feel like everyone have a reason of their own for living and fighting. I felt that men in the movie tired to find the reason for importance of existence. In this movie, the main character and his members lined up in single file from left to right, I like these shots because these images showed their feeling of togetherness and bond of trust especially in the last scene. When they were going to rescue a member, a main character said Lets go and the other answered Why not? and they started walking side by abreast. It was one of my favorite scenes in this movie. The superiority of qualitative or quantitative research depends on the data under study and the fruitful additions to the knowledge made by either of the methods. Such study is especially useful for researchers wanting to know the who, what, and where of events [15]. Qualitative research covers a broad area of philosophical positions. Interest in qualitative re-search is increasing in health department [16]. The purpose of qualitative analysis is to achieve greater understanding and to attain a hig her level of conceptual or theoretical background than it can be achieved in any individual empirical study [17, 18]. Quantitative research is described by some as a quick fix, it involves very little or no contact with the field or people [19, 20]. The Film: Pro-War or Anti-War? A question as to the war sentiments of this film can be most accurately answered through an analysis of Private Joker.   As his nickname suggests, the young marine is glib; using his sharp wit, average John Wayne interpretations, sense of irony and his readily apparent above-average intelligence to keep himself detached from the training and the Vietnam War.   It is as if he knows the futility of his actions, covers the meaninglessness of it all by going through the motions and yet uses his humor as a defense mechanism.   His message is clear:   It means nothing to me but I do it anyway. Hence, in answer to the question of whether the film is pro or anti war, I would have to say neither.   It does acknowledge both sides of story.   Its general message is not to preach, merely to tell a story or a situation like it is.   An illustration of this is how Private Joker wears a hat with the message ‘Born to Kill’ on it and at the same time sports a peace sign on his marine uniform.    In fact Private Joker himself put a name to the vacuum of opinion he (or man in general) is in:   the duality of man.   This philosophical concept, while very Jung-ishly technical is another way (at least in the film’s context) of putting confusion and hypocrisy.   It speaks of an inner battle being waged inside a man’s soul; not necessarily about good or evil, right or wrong†¦but more about belief. What is exactly that you believe in? Another illustration of this so-called duality is seen during the hazing of Gomer Pyle.   Once again the inner battle of Private Joker can be used as an anchor of this concept.   Initially, he hesitated in throwing the poor man a blow with his makeshift weapon.   In the end, however, he did land a few good hits.   The inner struggle can be seen later on when Joker covers his ears to drown our Pyle’s cries.   If Joker had been fully comfortable from the beginning with the physical hazing, I doubt that he would have bothered to cover his ears.   This just goes to show how one’s soul gets racked when one does something that half of him disapproves of. Portrayal of War What sets the film apart from other war movies is that it has a lot less drama.   There are no heart-wrenching one-liners.   It painted the circumstances of the war without the usual dramatic coatings that tug at one’s tear ducts.   On the other hand, it did not paint war either as fiercely brutal.   Like what I mentioned earlier, war was painted it like it was.   In that sense, one can say that the portrayal of war in this film is realistic.   It must be said however that if one has not experienced war first-hand, one can never really know what it is like. And even with that, each war is different.   Hence, all I can offer is my perception of the war that was portrayed in the film. War, with its shallow characteristics were equally portrayed along with the intricacies that usually accompany loss, brotherhood, bloodshed and self-realization.   One the one hand, Kubrick masterfully conveyed the message that war, from a soldier’s perspective, is merely about the survival, detached from the political machinations that caused it in the first place. Justifiable War   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In my opinion, the film does not touch upon issues of morality.   It makes no judgment calls.   What it does is bring all the ingredients of war into the mix and calls for the viewers to come up with their own conclusion.   There is, at least in my view, no hard and fast message about the justifiability of war that can be easily gleaned from this film.   Therefore, in answer to this question of whether or not the film viewed war as justifiable, one must look into each character. If one pegs the answer to the character of Animal Mother, war is justifiable—as long as one is the victor.   His character is of the opinion that war is the ultimate means to display one’s superior strength.   On the other hand, the character of Eightball pointed out that the Americans were in Vietnam to help the locals.   He was very miffed about the fact that the supposed beneficiaries of their aid were very ungrateful of it.   Therefore, through this perspective, it can be said that war can be justified if the cause is rooted in good intentions.
